China Shanghai International Children's Book Fair

CCBF 2017
17 - 19 November 2017
Shanghai, P. R. China

Welcome to Germany’s official participation at the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair!

The German Pavilion is presented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in cooperation with the AUMA - Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, organized by Messe Stuttgart and supported by Frankfurter Buchmesse, a subsidiary of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels).

China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF) is the only Asia-Pacific children’s book fair dedicated to copyright trading, author promotion, publishing, printing and distribution in contents for 0 to 16-year-old children and teenagers, including books, magazines, audio-visual material and educational services. As an event with B2B and B2C, the first CCBF was launched in November 2013 and won a huge success.

In November 2016 the fourth CCBF attracted about 300 exhibitors from 20 countries and a professional audience of 9,500 plus 42,000 private visitors. Amongst the professional visitors were publishers, distributors, booksellers, copyright agents, illustrators, librarians, representatives from the media and 1,000 authors.

Germany is participating in this book fair because of the many possibilities for cultural and economic exchange. New children’s books, juvenile and young adult fiction and non-fiction, as well as picture and audio books from Germany will be on show. Personal contacts with the German publishing industry, information on the Frankfurt Book Fair and exchange with the international children’s book market: the German Pavilion does so much more than simply inviting you to discover the contemporary editorial panorama in Germany.

Last year all in all 1,359 licences for German titles were sold to China. For seven years now China has been leading the ranks for translations from Germany. Chinese-language partners are especially keen to acquire children’s and young adult books. With 782 sales (2015: 765), they make up more than half of the total number of contracts. Of these, the most popular are picture books (324 contracts) and non-fiction and non-fiction picture books, with 261 contracts. (Source: Buch und Buchhandel in Zahlen 2016).

On behalf of all exhibitors, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, Messe Stuttgart and Frankfurter Buchmesse wish all participants a successful show and extend a warm welcome to all visitors of the German Pavilion in hall 1 stand 2D 05.
